I do not like the Nickel Metal Hydride batteries Nikon chose to use in this camera. It has superior image quality to the D70, in my opinion, but the D70/D70s are a bit better in terms of handling and usage because of the better flash control (iTTL) and battery (NiMH vs LiIon). I love the durability, I love the weight, I love the tank-like build quality! The photo quality is excellent, even when compared to cameras a generation ahead, like my D200. Professional, RUGGED, HEAVY, and still okay in 2012! It measures 6.2 inches by 6.1 inches by 3.4 inches, and it weighs 40 ounces. The D1X has a built-in one-quarter inch tripod socket. Other options include a DK-12 attachment ring and B and E focusing screens. The adapter and the MH-17/16/15 12V DC Quick Charger are both available. It operates on either an EN-4 Ni-MH 7.2V DC battery pack or an EH-4 AC adapter. This camera has two memory card slots and supports Micro Media and CompactFlash Type I/II cards. The LCD display can show both histograms and highlight point displays for the images. Thumbnails display in four or nine segment grids. You can also use the IEEE-1394 FireWire interface to connect to a computer. Sync speeds range up to 1/500 of a second.You can review your images on the LCD screen or on a TV in NTSC or PAL format. Flash sync settings include front and rear curtain, slow sync, red-eye reduction, and red-eye reduction with slow sync. A flash accessory shoe is built onto the D1X body. More detailed information about other types of lenses is available starting on page 198 of the user's manual. Nikon recommends D-type and G-type AF CPU Nikkors because all of the digital camera functions will be available. With its Nikon F bayonet mount, the D1X accepts a wide assortment of Nikkor lenses. The D1X allows you to choose each lens that you will use. With both Adobe RGB and sRGB, you have 14 levels of user-controlled color adjustment. You can fine-tune the white balance or use Tone Compensation to adjust the tonal curve under unusual lighting. You can set white balance manually or use the D1x's auto TTL or preset functions. Metering options include five-spot, variable center-weighted, or 3-D color matrix. You can also set compensations to ±5 EV at 1/3, 1/2, or a full step. ISO equivalencies range from 125 to 800.You can automatically bracket exposure over two or three frames in EV steps ranging from 1/3 to a full step. The electronically controlled self-timer can be set at two to 20 seconds. Shutter speeds range from 1/8000 of a second to 30 seconds. You can set the exposure manually or choose auto shutter priority, auto aperture priority, or flexible auto program. Autofocus mode can be locked on a single focus point, and focus tracking is also available. The Nikon provides up to five autofocus points with priority given to the closest point in dynamic AF mode. The viewfinder uses an optical type fixed eye-level pentaprism that displays 96% of the image the camera will capture. It can also buffer up to six NEF (RAW) format images at the same 3 fps. ![]() The Nikon D1X shoots a series of nine consecutive JPEG or TIFF images at 3 fps. With print outputs of 3008p by 1960p and 2000p by 1312p, you'll have vibrant photos fit for a two-page spread. The high-definition 5.3 MP CCD sensor captures RAW, TIFF, or JPEG images with effective resolutions of 4024p by 1324p. The controls are placed for fast, easy access, so you can focus on the shot and not the camera.
